Dubsky, Miners Shut Out Rascals In Season Finale
The Southern Illinois Miners took an early lead on Sunday against the River City Rascals at CarShield Field, and led throughout the game as Austin Dubsky took a no-hitter into the eighth inning to lead the team to a 2-0 win in their final game of the 2017 season.

In the first inning, Craig Massey, playing in his final game in a Miners uniform, led off the game with a single off Nick Kennedy (0-3), and moved to second base on a single by Romeo Cortina. After a double-play grounder moved Massey to third base, Ryan Lashley, also playing in his final game with Southern Illinois, singled up the middle to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning, the Miners got another run in similar fashion, as Massey and Cortina singled back-to-back with two outs before Nolan Earley scored Massey with a single into right field for a 2-0 Miners lead.

Dubsky (3-1), meanwhile, was dominating on the mound, allowing just one baserunner (a walk to Braxton Martinez leading off the second inning) in his first six innings pitched and retiring 15 batters in a row between the second and sixth frames. In the seventh, he worked around two walks with two strikeouts for another hitless frame. In the eighth, Clint Freeman broke up the no-hitter with a single to right-center field, but Earley threw him out trying to advance to second base.

Southern Illinois then went to their bullpen, and Kyle Grana and John Werner combined to retire all five batters they faced in the eighth and ninth innings, with Werner picking up his 22nd save to secure the victory for Dubsky, who finished with seven and one-third innings of one-hit, shutout baseball with three walks and six strikeouts.
